Airport Park & Recreation Project

Airport Heights Park and Recreation Project

The Coos Bay-North Bend Rotary Club has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Coos County Airport District. Through the agreement, the club has taken up the renovation of Airport Heights Park.  Currently the Club is in the process of hiring a design consultant that will take a look at the overall layout of the park that includes a playground, a sand volleyball pit, baseball fields, small picnic area, tennis and basketball courts, and an off location dog park and walking trails. The consultants job will be to look at the overall best use of areas in the park to maximize the opportunity for use by as many people as possible. The consultant will also make recommendations that will identify opportunities to increase access for adults and children of all abilities.

The project could include:

  • updating the playground structures,
  • fixing the ball park,
  •  adding plumbing, electrical, irrigation and safety fencing Infrastructure,
  • creating off-street parking and restrooms,
  • Creating  covered and picnic areas as well as walking paths,
  • and Amphitheatre.

A park steering committee has been established to help steer the project and move it forward. The members are Chair Samantha Oswald (Rotary), Vice-Chair Andrew Brainard (Coos County Airport District), Rick Skinner (Project Manager, CCAD), Tim Huntley (Community at Large), Mike Collins (Community at Large). The committee meets at noon on the second Thursday of each month in the Coos County Airport District Board Room (1100 Airport Lane, North Bend OR). The meetings are open to the public.
