Airport Heights Park and Recreation Project

Ground Breaking

The Coos County Airport District and the Coos Bay-North Bend Rotary Club hosted a ceremonial groundbreaking at the Airport Heights Park Playground to kick off a revitalization project. The park is located inside the property boundaries of the district and has been in place since the development of the neighborhood more than 40 years ago.

The two organizations signed a Memorandum of Understanding to rehabilitate the park using a multi-year phased approach. That work began with the addition of a swing set and multi-use Synergy Play System that is currently underway. Rotary has hired Ground Workshop to develop a master plan for the 13-acre park/recreation area. Ground Workshop is based out of Portland. The Principal-in-Charge, Tommy Solomon, has 17 years of experience in the design of community-supported open spaces and inclusive play environments.

The park currently includes an outdoor volleyball area, a basketball court, tennis courts, baseball fields, and a playground. While work is happening, portions of the playground area will be temporarily closed. The rest of the park and trails will remain open to the public.

Creating a master plan for the entire park area is expected to take several months. The public will have several opportunities to present ideas and offer input as options for the park are developed. Airport Heights Park is located off Colorado near Airport Lane in North Bend, OR.
